About our Project
The future is becoming increasingly digital, internet and applications are becoming part of our daily lives, and the field of sailing is no exception in this regard. Digital applications in sailing are becoming increasingly the norm in organization, management and evaluation of regattas.
Our project was aimed at upgrading the digital skills of coaches, athletes and staff of our partner clubs, so they can follow the digital advancements in the field make their work and operations easier. The idea behind this project was to aim at a unified approach to regatta management in the region, by having all the clubs use one app for regatta management, which would provide for ease of access and ease of management for participating clubs. So we have organized an education for the partner clubs, coaches and staff, so they could upgrade their skills and learn to use this app in their work, and also to try to transfer the newfound knowledge to other clubs in the region.
Within our project, we have implemented an educational seminar on digital applications in sailing, with special emphasis on the application Racing Rules Of Sailing, which was implemented and promoted by the World Sailing Federation, but most of the clubs still don't know how to actually make the most of what the app offers. The application is very useful in all stages of regatta management, and offers advanced features for its patrons (paid members). Our educator was an international referee and umpire with years of practical experience in using the application, and he presented us with a training in using all the available features of the app, with example showcases. (N.B. All the examples showed in the textbook are from the live version of the app, with all clubs agreeing to showing the details with some personal data visible.)
Another partner club with extensive experience in organizing and managing regattas and use of various applications had produced an useful overview of other available adequate apps for regatta management, with short explanations and example cases, and this was also included in our educational seminar.
The participants found the knowledge very useful, and have advanced their skills with this application, which they will be using in further work within their clubs and for organizing and managing events, and have gained a valuable overview of digital options at hand.
Every partner club will be implementing seminars on the use of this app to pass the knowledge within their networks, each in their own native language, for the regional clubs. The details on upcoming events will be published on this website down below.
The educational materials have been presented in four (4) languages, and are freely available on this website, for all interested parties to use, and all interested public are invited to implement the pertaining education and spread the handbooks within their circles.

Educational seminars - local events

We held three seminars in partner countries, where we presented the educational materials to our peers and interested public.
In Croatia, an educational seminar was held in November 2024. More than 30 people from regional sailing clubs attended, and our event was covered by the local media. After the educational part, we had a lively discussion on the topic of digitalization in sailing. Participants welcomed our initiative to increase digital education to cover the needs of clubs. In Slovenia, the educational seminar was held for cca 30 people from various regional clubs, which operate mostly on inland bodies of water. Our expert educator did a presentation, and participants could interact and ask questions. The initiative was welcomed by the participants, and everybody agreed that more educational events like that are needed, if we are to unify the field of sailing and get everybody on board with the new applications in sailing. In Italy, our partner club had a promotional stand in the largest sailing event in the region, the Barcolana regatta, which is visited by close to half a million people and lasts for 10 days. They promoted our project, our educational materials and had a poster of our project which linked to our project website with the materials. In this way, we reached many of the interested public locally, regionally and also worldwide. |
