About our Project
The future is becoming increasingly digital, internet and applications are becoming part of our daily lives, and the field of sailing is no exception in this regard. Digital applications in sailing are becoming increasingly the norm in organization, management and evaluation of regattas.
Our project was aimed at upgrading the digital skills of coaches, athletes and staff of our partner clubs, so they can follow the digital advancements in the field make their work and operations easier. The idea behind this project was to aim at a unified approach to regatta management in the region, by having all the clubs use one app for regatta management, which would provide for ease of access and ease of management for participating clubs. So we have organized an education for the partner clubs, coaches and staff, so they could upgrade their skills and learn to use this app in their work, and also to try to transfer the newfound knowledge to other clubs in the region.
Within our project, we have implemented an educational seminar on digital applications in sailing, with special emphasis on the application Racing Rules Of Sailing, which was implemented and promoted by the World Sailing Federation, but not much instruction was provided alongside, so most of the clubs still don't know how to actually make the most of what the app offers. The application is very useful in all stages of regatta management, and offers advanced features for its patrons (paid members). Our educator was an international referee and umpire with years of practical experience in using the application, and he presented us with a training in using all the available features of the app, with example showcases. (N.B. All the examples showed in the textbook are from the live version of the app, with all clubs agreeing to show the details without censoring out the personal data. In case anyone has an issue with this, we will oblige and remove the showcase examples from the manual or blur the details out, upon request.)
Another partner club with extensive experience in organizing and managing regattas and use of various applications, has produced an useful overview of other available adequate apps for regatta management, with short explanations and example cases, and this was also included in our education.
The participants found the knowledge very useful, and have advanced their skills with this application, which they will be using in further work within their clubs and for organizing and managing events, and have gained a valuable overview of digital options at hand.
Every partner club will be implementing seminars on the use of this app to pass the knowledge within their networks, each in their own native language, for the regional clubs. The details on upcoming events will be published on this website down below.
The educational materials have been presented in four (4) languages, and are freely available on this website, for all interested parties to use, and all interested public are invited to implement the pertaining education and spread the handbooks within their circles.
